There is no letting down in the English Premier League in terms of surprises, excitement and drama. Gameweek 9 delivered it all and it was good.
It was a season to forget for Liverpool last term but boy, have they remembered how to score and win this season. As far as early predictions for the title go, the Reds are keen favourites. Mohamed Salah has also become even more unforgiving this season- plundering the goals with reckless abandon.
There have been two management casualties so far this season with Wolves’ Xisco Munoz and Newcastle’s Steve Bruce shown the exit in recent weeks. Yet, Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer seems to be walking on the tightest of ropes after four matches without a win.
Review of Gameweek 9
The previous game week had lots of talking points, not least at Old Trafford.
A rejuvenated Arsenal began the weekend’s action with a comfortable 3-1 victory against Aston Villa on Friday. Since the opening three losses, the Gunners are yet to taste defeat.
Chelsea raised the bar even further on Saturday with a 7-0 win against relegation-threatened Norwich City. Mason Mount grabbed his first Chelsea hat-trick.
Crystal Palace and Newcastle played out a 1-1 draw as Leeds United and Wolves shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw affair.
Everton was stunned at home 5-2 by a Claudio Ranieri-coached Watford side. Josh King scored a hat-trick.
Southampton and Burnley played out an entertaining 2-2 draw while Manchester City pierced through Brighton 4-1.
West Ham has begun exactly how they did last season, defeating a largely inconsistent Tottenham side to move into the top four positions.
Leicester City is gradually crawling its way back to the reckoning this season, managing a 2-1 win against a resilient Brentford team.
And in the game of the week, Salah notched a hat-trick as Liverpool hit Manchester United for five at home.
