There will be plenty of surprises and talking points with 16 tasty encounters billed for two matchdays.
Review of Gameweek 3
It rained goals at all the venues in the last game week. Well, except for the game at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy which finished goalless.
In Group A, Manchester City outclassed Club Brugge 5-1 away to stay close to the leaders PSG who, themselves managed a 3-2 win against Leipzig thanks to a brace from Lionel Messi.
In a fiercely contested match in Group B, Liverpool edged past Atletico Madrid 3-2 at the Wanda Metropolitano. Mohamed Salah and Antoine Griezmann scored a brace each. AC Milan lost 1-0 to Porto to make it three straight UCL losses.
Ajax eased past Borussia Dortmund 4-0 to take one step towards qualification in Group C as Sporting made light work of Besiktas 4-1 in Turkey.
In Group D, Vinicius was the star of the show as Real Madrid hit Shakhtar Donetsk for five. Inter Milan finally got their first win of the campaign with a 3-1 win against Sheriff, who also lost their first game.
Gerard Pique scored the only goal against Dynamo Kyiv in Barcelona’s first win as Bayern Munich continue to take out all comers, defeating Benfica 4-0 in Group E.
In Group F, Manchester United had to come from two goals down in the first half to defeat Atalanta 3-2 with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the winning goal. Meanwhile, Villarreal thrashed Young Boys 4-1 in the other group match.
Salzburg earned a comfortable 3-1 victory at home to Wolfsburg as Lille and Sevilla played out a goalless scoreline in Group G.
Juventus scored a late goal against Zenit St Petersburg to maintain its 100 per cent record in the competition as Chelsea put four past a lowly Malmo side.
Preview Of Gameweek 4
The beat goes on and on. There will be lots more to expect in this game week- a repeat of game week 3 but at different venues.
Groups E–H will begin proceedings on Tuesday, while Groups A-D will conclude the week’s football action on Wednesday.
Manchester City will welcome Club Brugge to the Etihad as PSG travel to Germany to face Leipzig in Group A. The Ligue 1 leaders will be without Lionel Messi who limped off last weekend.
Liverpool will be desperate to win and ascertain qualification for the knockout rounds when Atletico Madrid come visiting. Things look rather slim for Serie A joint-leaders, AC Milan in Group B as they face Porto.
Borussia Dortmund will look to get its revenge at the Signal Iduna Park against a high-flying Ajax in Group C as Sporting entertain Besiktas.
Real Madrid will be confident of another victory against Shakhtar at the Bernabeu. In the other Group D match, Sheriff will take on Inter Milan at home.
Barcelona, who are now without a permanent coach will travel to Ukraine to face Dynamo Kyiv. The odds are grossly stacked against them. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, will take on Benfica away in Group E.
A slightly happier Manchester United team will do well to be wary of Atalanta at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia. In the other Group F match, Villarreal will be home to Young Boys.
Wolfsburg will take on Salzburg at home in Group G while La Liga side, Sevilla takes on Lille in Spain.
In Group H, Chelsea will hope for the same when they travel to Sweden to take on Malmo as Juventus battle Zenit St Petersburg at the Allianz Stadium.
