Review of Gameweek 2
The Champions League Gameweek 2 delivered plenty of goals and excitement.
Club Brugge continue to show signs of intent, defeating Leipzig 2-1 away in Group A. Meanwhile, PSG picked their moments as they defeated Manchester City 2-0. The visitors would have themselves to blame for not taking their chances.
Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino scored a brace each in Liverpool’s 5-1 trouncing of Porto at the Estadio Dragao. In the other Group B game, Luis Suarez scored a controversially awarded penalty at the death as Atletico Madrid ran away 2-1 winners against AC Milan.
In Group C, Donyell Mallen scored the only goal in Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 win against Sporting as Ajax earned a comfortable 2-0 win against Besiktas.
Sheriff continues to ride its luck with a 2-1 win against La Liga giants, Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in Group D. Inter Milan failed to score once again as it was held to a goalless draw by Shakhtar Donetsk.
Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich continued its dominance of Group E with a 5-0 thrashing of Dynamo Kyiv. Barcelona was handed another shocker by Benfica who cruised to a 3-0 win.
In Group F, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a last-gasp goal as Manchester United defeated Villarreal in a game of missed chances. Atalanta managed a 1-0 win over Young Boys.
Karim Adeyemi scored two goals from 2 penalties in Salzburg’s 2-1 win against Lille as Wolfsburg and Sevilla shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in Group G.
Zenit St Petersburg made an easy work of Malmo, defeating them by 4-0 in Group H. Chelsea was then brought to earth by Juventus who won by just a goal to nil.
Preview Of Gameweek 3
There are lots to expect when the teams face off for Gameweek 3, not least, goals and drama.
Groups A–D will kick off proceedings on Tuesday just before Groups E-H round things off proceedings on Wednesday.
Manchester City faces a tricky away tie against Club Brugge in Group A. The Premier League Champions will be desperate to see off their Belgium counterparts and get back to winning ways. PSG will host Leipzig in the other group game.
Atletico Madrid welcomes Liverpool to the Wanda Metropolitano in Group B as Porto and Milan face off.
Ajax takes on Borussia Dortmund in a battle of supremacy as Besiktas and Sporting will fancy their chances of winning in Group C.
Real Madrid visits Ukraine to take on Shakhtar Donetsk while Group D leaders, Sheriff will hope for more of the same when they take on Inter Milan at the San Siro.
